Sometimes the idea of a new baby really does feel like taking off on an adventure on the high seas, guided by nothing but love and prayer. How fitting, then, to celebrate this joy with a whimsical Noah’s Ark themed baby shower.
An adorable alternative to the typical “pink ponies” and “blue puppies” color and animal schemes you might expect from a more traditional shower, the array of decorations making up two different Noah’s Ark shower themes, make a fun and surprising shower for everyone. This is a great theme if the shower is going to be kid-friendly, or gentlemen-friendly, rather than being a baby shower that just needs to tickle the mom-to-be and all her lady friends pink. In fact, pink is just one of many in the rainbow of colors that are worked into this fun theme. These decorated plates, cups and balloons featuring a zoo of adorable animals, could match most solid colors under the sun, from baby pink to cerulean blue, and even shades of greens and browns if the mom to be is a nature lover! This theme offers potential for an indoor or outdoor shower filled with something fun for everyone.
Ideas for using a Noah's Ark Baby Shower Theme
A Noah’s Ark Baby Shower is just filled with opportunities for fun. Here are a few extra-special ones to get you started:
- The ice breaker is a very important part of any shower. Starting with people having fun right away is a great way to keep the energy and the fun going all shower long, without feeling forced. When guests arrive, have them draw from a bowl - or possibly a toy boat (a tie-in to the “ark” theme) - a slip of paper with the name of an animal written on it. Just like on Noah’s Ark, there will be two of each animal of course. Each guest will have to mime and mimic the sounds of the animal on their slip of paper, with no talking until they find the person with the same animal as they have. Be sure to throw in a couple really silly animals like a platypus or elephant. Everyone will be laughing five minutes into the shower - a great start to a magical day.
- The given, of course, is having animal crackers around as treats: pink frosted, white frosted, and plain. (The legend has it that Noah’s wife invented animal crackers!) Place these sweet little crackers around in martini glasses with festively colored ribbons tied around the stems. If you’re feeling especially ambitious, separate the cookies by species. Another great idea is to make animal shaped jello jigglers. Make a sheet of jello and use animal-shaped cookie cutters to cut out animal shaped treats. Place them two by two just like they were walking up the plank onto an ark! These fun and colorful little creatures can be added to sprite or lemonade to spruce up a simple drink!

- A fun game for the party would be a bean bag toss using beanie babies animals as bean bags. Use cardboard to make a ship and cut out holes for certain animals - a kitty head shaped hole to throw a kitty through, a bone shaped hole to throw a dog through, and so on. Everyone can have fun trying to get the beanbag animals through the right hole. Award a certain number of points for making it at all, and more points for making it in the right hole - the winner gives their gift to the mother-to-be first! (This probably wasn’t how Noah selected the animals to load onto his ark.)
- Try instead of a diaper cake, creating a diaper ark, with the diapers shaped into a ship. You can even find a mobile for over the crib that has a bunch of little animals with it. Hide the mobile in the box in the middle of the diaper ark, and place the little animals on top! The bride will be tickled pink, blue, orange, green, or whichever solid color dominates the shower decorations!
